The AI transformation is rapidly reshaping the American workforce. Since 2023, more than 27,000 positions have been eliminated as a direct result of AI adoption, with entry-level corporate and programming roles most affected. Younger professionals now face intensified competition as AI systems approach, and in some cases exceed, human performance—while early adopters report productivity gains of up to fivefold.
In response, the federal government’s AI Action Plan (July 2025) and America’s Talent Strategy (August 2025) outline substantial investments in AI-focused education, workforce retraining, and labor mobility. Yet the accelerating pace of technological change underscores the need for broader collaboration among federal, state, and local entities, as well as industry and community partners, to ensure that the workforce of today—and the generation that follows—remains equipped to thrive in an AI-driven economy.
